Register via the Patuxent Lapidary Guild website at least 7 days in advance to allow preparation of materials. Email the instructor, Eric Hoffman, at email@example.com with any questions. A minimum of 2 students is required for this class to run, and class size will be limited to 4 students. Instruction fees are due at registration, and materials fees are due at the start of the class. Your place will be reserved when you register and pay the instruction fee. Please see the website for our cancellation policy.
Cancellations received by participants more than 10 days prior to the event will result in a full refund of class and materials fees, minus a $25 processing fee.
Cancellations received 10 or fewer days prior to the event will result in no refund, and the materials fee will still be due to the instructor within 10 days of the class's end (because any materials have already been ordered for the participant by this time).
Cancellations by the PLG or instructor will result in an opportunity to reschedule or a refund, as determined by the participant.
Intarsia, originally a wood inlay technique dating back to the 7th century AD, is a way of seamlessly joining two different pieces of material. Each student will receive instruction on assembling intarsia slabs, to include layout, cutting, grinding, and gluing. Each student will finish one or more assembled intarsia slabs, to be cabbed or flat-lapped at their leisure.
Prerequisite: Cabbing 101 (Basic Cabochons) or equivalent experience.
Class Fee: $80, payable by credit card or PayPal when you register (see below).
Materials Fee: Free/BYOM. Bring your own slabs, from which we will cut approximately 1” strips. This allows you to bring material that you would like to see assembled together and with which you are comfortable working. There will be additional material available for purchase from either the instructor or the shop.
Requirements: Bringing an optivisor and/or eye protection is recommended. You may also want to bring something for taking notes (pen & paper, phone, clay tablet & stylus, etc.).
