Here’s a list of the classes scheduled for October 2017. Please scroll down if you’d like to see the flyer containing details for a particular class. The fliers appear in the same order as the list.

Fold formed: Earrings ,Cuff  Bracelet and More

Date:   Saturday October 7th, 2017 10:00 am to 4:00 pm (with a lunch break)

Location:. PLG workshop, 169 Defense Highway (lower level in back) Annapolis, MD.

Description:  First time students will make 6 projects of sample styles, earrings and a bracelet with copper by hammering and forming. Students may bring their personal tools if desired. Some silversmithing experience is helpful but not required. This class is intensive, please be prepared to focus and work hard. The images above are intended as a sample only – students will create their own designs.

Note: Students who have taken this class before will be encouraged to make a copper cuff or a jewelry item using the fold forming skills. They will not need to repeat what they have learned before by making the samples.

Fees: Class fee $90.00, $110.00 non-member, payable in cash or by check.

Materials fee: Paid to the instructor $20.00 or $58.00 (including hammer – Peddinghause Bordering Hammer -Rio #112401) Materials include pre cut 26 gauge copper sheet and 24 gauge bracelet blank. You may bring additional copper of your own if desired.

Requirements: Students will need a narrow peen hammers such as the bordering hammer above or any hammer with a narrow peen edge. Contact the instructor if you are not sure your hammer meets the requirements.  Students are encouraged to bring a notebook and an Optivisor if they own one.

Beginning-PMC-CL

 

Basic PMC (Precious Metal Clay)

Date: Sunday October 8th, 2017 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm with a quick lunch break

Location: PLG workshop, 169 Defense Highway (lower level in back), Annapolis, MD

Description: Learn how to create unique jewelry with Precious Metal Clay by molding and shaping this versatile material. Students will complete at least 3 or more silver projects (pendant earring set, molded pendant, earrings or charm and a hollow lentil bead) and learn kiln firing.

Fees: Class fee $90.00 member, $110.00 non-member, payable in cash or by check.

Material Fee: $79.00, which will include a 25 gram package of PMC3 and use of all needed supplies and tools. Please contact the instructor with any questions regarding materials.

Please note: material fees may fluctuate due to rising and lowering of silver costs at the time of ordering.

Mokume’ Gane Ring

Argentium Silver and Copper

Date:   Sunday October 15th, 2017, from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm; We will have a quick snack break

Location: PLG workshop, 169 Defense Highway (lower level) Annapolis, MD.

Description:  Students will learn detailed Mokume’ Gane skills and make 1 ring with one of the patterns above. Projects will start from a pre-made billet of copper and argentium silver. Students will learn to create their own patterns using forging and rolling mill skills. This class is intensive, please be prepared to focus and work hard. The image above is intended as a sample only – students will create their own designs.

Fees: Class fee $190.00 members, $210.00 non-members, payable in cash or by check made out to the PLG.

Materials fee:

Option #1: $103.50  and include 1 set ball burs saw blades, patina, snap mandrel with 15 discs and an argentium silver and copper billet 1/4″ x 1″

Option #2: $53.50 and include 1 set ball burs saw blades, patina, snap mandrel with 15 discs and a brass and copper billet 1/4″ x 1″

 Requirements: Students are encouraged to bring a notebook and an Optivisor if they own one.

Raised Copper, Bronze or Sterling bracelet

Dates: Sunday October 22, 2017 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a snack break

Location: PLG workshop, 169 Defense Highway (lower level) Annapolis, MD.

Description:  Silversmithing experience is not required. Students will raise by hand a cuff in their choice of metal. Space is limited to 5 students to allow the time needed to work on the cuff. Students will make 1 bracelet. Students may bring personal tools if desired.

Fees: Class fee $90.00, $110.00 non-member, payable in cash or by check to PLG.

Materials fee:  Paid to the instructor

Option #1: Sterling silver kit 6″ is $40.00, large 8″ is $48.00

Option #2: Bronze kit 6″ is $5.00, large 8″ is $7.00

Option #3: Copper kit 6″ is $5.00, large 8″ is $7.00

Recommended: These hammers are optional but recommended:

Peddinghaus Plannishing hammer $38.00 and Peddinghaus Nylon hammer $17.00.  Please specify at the time of registration your option and if you will need to purchase hammers for extra cost. If you have a flat plannishing hammer or plastic mallet they probably will work fine, please discuss this when you register. Please note: material fees may fluctuate due to rising and lowering of silver costs at the time of ordering.

Cloisonné:

Cloisonné jewelry is stunning!  But what exactly is cloisonné?  Cloisonné pieces are generally brightly colored with beautiful enameling.  Cloisonné is a process of making a design with enamel that is in cells with thin wire around the edges of each cell.  Cloisonné is used in art nouveau (1895-1910) pieces through mid-twentieth century pieces and on current pieces.

Date:   Saturday October 28th and Sunday October 29th, 2017, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (1 hour lunch break) 

Location: PLG workshop, 169 Defense Highway (lower level) Annapolis, MD.

Description:  Students will make projects on fine silver by kiln firing enamel in advanced cloisonné’ styles. Students will learn advanced enameling skills and make 2 or more cloisonné projects. This class is intensive, please be prepared to focus and work hard. The image above is intended as a sample only – students will create their own designs.

Fees: Class fee $335.00 members, $375.00 non-members, payable in cash or by check made out to the PLG.

Materials fee: $105.00, (everything) $85.00 (plus just enamels and silver kit) ($50.00 if you have your own enamels, brush and sifter pans) payable to the instructor. Materials will include: one kit (from below if needed) sifter pans and 3″x3″ .999 fine silver sheet and 10 ft. cloisonné wire.

These kits are intended for beginners who would like to try using jewelry enamels. Each kit comes in a plastic box with .5 oz. of 11 colors of jewelry enamel, 1 oz. of Klyr-fire, a firing rack, a 3 point trivet, a medium size sifter, a fine point paint brush, a wet packing spoon, a wet packing scribe and directions. The transparent kit is best suited for enameling on silver and the opaque kit is best suited for enameling on copper. The colors in the transparent kit are red, yellow, light blue, dark blue, green, purple, orange, black, clear (flux), pink and brown. The colors in the opaque kit are red, yellow, blue, orange, green, purple, gray, brown, black, undercoat white and white.

Requirements: Students are encouraged to bring a notebook and an Optivisor if they own one.
