Here’s a list of the classes scheduled for April 2017. Please scroll down if you’d like to see the flyer containing details for a particular class. The fliers appear in the same order as the list.

Silver Spinner Ring

Date :  Saturday April 1st, 2017 , from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

We will break for a quick lunch, bring or buy nearby.

Location: PLG workshop, 169 Defense Highway (lower level) Annapolis, MD.

Description:  Students will make a silver ring with flared ends and a spinning decorated middle band. Students will work on jeweler’s saw skills, hammering and stamping techniques, and finishing techniques. Students may bring their personal tools if desired. Silversmithing experience is required. This class is intensive, please be prepared to focus and work hard. The images above are intended as a sample only – students will create their own designs using gallery wire hammering or roll printing.

Fees: Class fee $90.00 members, $110.00 non-members, payable in cash or by check made out to the PLG.

Materials fee: $53.00 paid to the instructor. 4″ x 1″ 22 gauge sterling sheet for the band, 3 different 4 inch pieces gallery wire of your choice silver, copper, and bronze wire, patina and saw blades.

Materials will make 1 or possibly 2 rings.

Please note : material fees may fluctuate due to rising and lowering of silver costs at the time of ordering.

Requirements: Students are encouraged to bring a notebook and an Optivisor if they own one.

A minimum of 3 students is required for this class to run, and class size will be limited to 8 students. Please sign up by March 24th so your materials can be ordered. Your place will be reserved when you contact the instructor and receive a reply. If you cancel or no show after the date above you will still be required to purchase your materials.

Silversmithing: Faceted Stone Ring or Pendant with a Bezel

Dates: Sunday April 2nd, 2017, from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm
We will break for a snack.

Location: PLG workshop, 169 Defense Highway (lower level) Annapolis, MD.

Description:  Some silversmithing experience is required. This class is for students who have taken basic silversmithing, please be prepared to focus and work hard. Students will make a bezel set stone with a bail, earrings and simple tube set ring. Please contact the instructor with any questions.

Fees: Class fee $90.00, $110.00 non-member, payable in cash or by check.

Materials fee: Sterling silver kit is $34.20 which includes 3″ x 1″ sterling silver sheet 22 gauge, 3 CZ faceted stone (you will have choice of shape and size) and 8″ sterling  1/2 round 12 gauge sterling wire to use as ring shank or bail, small gemstones and saw blades. Contact the instructor for details if you would like to bring your own materials or your own faceted stone. (materials fees are paid to the instructor)

Raised Copper, Bronze or Sterling bracelet

Dates: Saturday April 8th, 2017 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a snack break

Location: PLG workshop, 169 Defense Highway (lower level) Annapolis, MD.

Description:  Silversmithing experience is not required. Students will raise by hand a cuff in their choice of metal. Space is limited to 5 students to allow the time needed to work on the cuff. Students will make 1 bracelet. Students may bring personal tools if desired.

Fees: Class fee $90.00, $110.00 non-member, payable in cash or by check to PLG.

Materials fee:  Paid to the instructor

Option #1: Sterling silver kit 6″ is $40.00 , large 8″ is $48.00

Option #2: Bronze kit 6″ is $5.00 , large 8″ is $7.00

Option #3: Copper kit 6″ is $5.00 , large 8″ is $7.00

Recommended: These hammers are optional but recommended:

Peddinghaus Plannishing hammer $38.00 and Peddinghaus Nylon hammer $17.00.  Please specify at the time of registration if you will need to purchase hammers for extra cost. If you have a flat plannishing hammer or plastic mallet they probably will work fine, please discuss this when you register. Please note: material fees may fluctuate due to rising and lowering of silver costs at the time of ordering.

Fused Fine Silver Pinched Loop Chain

Date :  Sunday April 9th, 2017  from 10:00 am to 4:00pm (quick lunch break)

Location: PLG workshop, 169 Defense Highway (lower level) Annapolis, MD.

Description:  Pinched loop chains are versions of the single loop-n-loop chain. The name “Sailor Chain” has often been used for this chain because it looks like strong anchor chain. Students will make a chain of their choice using fusion but  may only complete a section of the chain. Students will be able to try more than one style and work on and finishing techniques. Students may bring their personal tools if desired. Some silversmithing experience is helpful but not required. This class is intensive, please be prepared to focus and work hard.

Note: There is no soldering in this class, all bonds will be made by fusing metal.

Fees: Class fee $90.00 members, $110.00 non-members, payable in cash or by check made out to the PLG.

Materials fee: $65.50 and include: 3 feet 14gauge .999 fine silver wire, 14 feet 20 gauge .999 fine silver wire, a large charcoal brick, 1/2″ dowel, saw blades and 2 scribes (Let the instructor know if you do not need any items listed or need to add needle nose pliers) Pliers will be available for student use without purchase.
